I guess I did alright with my goals for September. Here’s what they were:

  • Post at least 7 blog posts per week.
I wrote 30 posts in September, there’s 30 days in September. I think I did pretty good on this one.
  • Add more pictures in to my blog.
Out of the 30 posts that I made last month, 27 of them had pictures. I definitely improved in that area.
  • Network and exchange blogroll links with 5 other sites (Let me know if you’re interested).
I managed to land on the blogroll on StockTradingToGo, Lazy Man and Money, The Digerati Life, Make Money Online The Quick and Easy Way, and uh… Be Healthy and Relax. I know, the last one shouldn’t count because, technically, I own it. But still I almost got 5 blogroll links. It’s actually much harder to do than you might think when you are a really new blog. (See my post about needing momentum)
  • Get to 50 subscribers.
I came extremely close to meeting this goal. We reached 48 subscribers for the month of September. Only 2 Off!
  • Participate in at least 1 carnival per week.
There were 4 weeks in September and I participated in 4 Carnivals this month. Success.
  • Outsource 3 small tasks to report back to blog readers.
Failed miserably. I don’t want to make excuses but there was a lot of other stuff going on that prevented me from getting this done. The ironic part of it all is that if I had a virtual assistant, maybe I wouldn’t have had so much that I would have had to accomplish.

My Goals For October:

  • Post 5 blog posts per week.
I know what you’re thinking… “Isn’t this a step backwards? Last month your goal was 7 posts a week”. I’m not seeing it as a step backwards. In fact, I’ve been reading a lot of articles lately about overloading your readers. Zen Habits has talked about posting only 5 times a week, ProBlogger and Tim Ferris both wrote about a similar idea. I know that personally, when I come to work on Monday morning and see 200 posts in my feed reader, it’s a little overwhelming. The truth of the matter is, most people don’t keep up with the blogs that they read over the weekend. I would like to cut back so I don’t overload readers and so that I have a day off or two of posting per week. You will get better content that way and, if you’re like me, you won’t get overloaded on Monday mornings with all the blogs you didn’t keep up with over the weekend.
  • Exchange 5 more blogroll links.
A lot of the bloggers that I talked to about exchanging blogroll links with wanted to see that I was serious. They wanted to wait another month or so to make sure this blog was the real deal. Well, another month has passed and I’m going to bring the idea to their attention again. I’ll see if I can’t get some back links from some of the sites that turned me down a month ago.
  • Get to 100 subscribers.
This may seem a little high here because I didn’t even meet last months goal but oh well. I’m confident that October will be a more productive month for this site. Posting only 5 days a week will, in my opinion, allow me to come up with better, more relevant content and I have no intention on slowing down in the promotion of this website. We can do it.
  • Continue to participate in 1 carnival per week.
I believe the carnivals are what drew the biggest amount of subscribers to the site. I don’t want to let off on this one.
  • Make some money.
So far, this site has not made a single cent. I wrote a post about starting a blog and taking steps to monetize. I’ve taken a few small steps to monetize but it’s time to get aggressive and see if we can’t make some money this month with this blog. My goal for this month is to make $50 off of blogging. It’s not a huge goal that’s unattainable but it would be pretty hypocritical of myself to explain how to monetize a blog but not take those steps to do so myself.

Those are my goals for this month. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I want to know what you guys think about blog overload. Does anyone else get a little overwhelmed when their favorite blogs post a little too much? Do you think it’s a good idea to take a step back on the blogging schedule? I would really love some feedback on that topic.

Thanks so much for commenting and helping make this blog what it is,

-M
